AsiaWorld-Expo | Japanese Sensation back number to Hold 'Grateful Yesterdays Tour 2026' Concert in Hong Kong this September
Description
Japanese mega-popular band back number has officially announced that they will be performing in Hong Kong for the first time on September 26 and 27, 2026, at the AsiaWorld-Expo, with their 'Grateful Yesterdays Tour 2026' in Hong Kong.
back number is preparing for their largest-scale tour yet, with their first-ever five-dome tour 'Grateful Yesterdays Tour 2026' starting in May and spanning nine performances across five locations in Japan, expecting to attract over 0.5 million attendees. Their Hong Kong concert, 'back number "Grateful Yesterdays Tour 2026" in Hong Kong', marks a memorable overseas milestone and will feature their most iconic songs and an evolved live performance.
Formed in 2004, back number consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Shimizu Iori, bassist Koizumi Kazuya, and drummer Kurihara Hajime. They made their major debut in 2011 and quickly rose to prominence in the Japanese music industry with their honest and detailed lyrics about love and life, paired with infectious melodies. Their extensive list of hits includes 'Suipingxian', 'Gaolingde Huazi', 'Huashu', and 'Qingchun', among others, with over 30 songs surpassing 100 million streams each. Their song 'Suipingxian', inspired by letters from high school students affected by the pandemic, topped the streaming charts for nine consecutive weeks, becoming a generational anthem and catapulting the band to newfound fame. Their 2025 release, 'Want Want Want', was also chosen as the theme song for NHK's winter sports programming. From the popularity of their songs, commercial success, to their live performances, back number has solidified their position as one of Japan's top acts.
For years, Hong Kong fans have taken to social media to express their hopes for a back number performance in the city. In an interview regarding their upcoming first Asia tour, lead vocalist Shimizu Iori displayed his humility and sincerity. He confessed that the idea of an 'overseas concert' initially filled him with anxiety, questioning if there truly were people overseas awaiting their arrival. Shimizu shared that the band had primarily focused on their domestic activities and was unsure of their influence abroad. It wasn't until they saw overseas fans flying to Japan to attend their concerts that he realized, 'Ah, there really are people out there supporting us!'. This desire to 'personally experience that atmosphere' became the strongest motivation for this tour. He also emotionally stated that this tour marks a 'new starting point' for the band, and instead of conforming to local music trends, they aim to present the 'most authentic version of back number', allowing overseas fans to witness the genuine chemistry between the three members.
Tickets for the Hong Kong concert will go on sale on Thursday, May 21, at 12:00 PM via Klook.
We look forward to joining Hong Kong fans in witnessing back number's heartfelt and captivating live performance.
